Pinaz Sethi, a physically challenged teenager can neither hear nor speak but she has a special ability-flair for painting. She has won many a prizes in painting. The latest is the first prize in national competition organised by the Child Welfare Council of India, an institution set up by the Centre to cater to the concerns of disabled children. Pinaz has just completed matriculation and is pursuing a diploma in art and craft.
She belonged to a middle class family. Her grand father Dharmpal Sethi has played a prominent role in teachers movement in Punjab and still active in several social and political activities for the betterment of the society.
An impressive function to honour this talented artist was organised at Faridkot on November 25, 2013 by an NGO, Vichar Manch (regd.). She was felicitated by Com. Sukhinder Singh Dhaliwal Gen Secy UCPI, Principal Bakhshish Singh, Principal Kuldeep Chander Sharma, Principal Gurdeep Singh Dhudi, Pawan Gulati, Hardeep Singh Kataria, Paramjit Singh Sandhu, Dr. Pankaj Bansal and many others, A large number of academicians, lawyers, doctors and activists of the area were present to honour and bless the girl.
An activist rightly quipped,'This is a victory of small narrative that identifies the talent remain hidden in the vast spaces of this vast country.'
