11.11.2013 : rememembering maulana abul kalam azad
the nation is celebrating the birth anniversary of this great son -the legendary freedom fighter, the first education minister, the author of 'india wins freedom'.
we celebrate this day as education day. azad was born in mecca and remained in the thick of freedom movement all his life. he was president of indian national congress in 1947 when we got freedom. he was very close to gandhiji, nehru and other big leaders. with leaders like him in aplenty, the congress remained wedded to secularism, the partition was a setback for him as well as for the nation.
remembering him today, one hears a high decibal modinama that the congress was responsible for the partition. no wonder, advani and jaswant singh also paid rich compements to jinah in the past.
with nothing to show as a legacy to fight british imprealism, rss, bjp and their leaders often dig the past to blame the congress. the fact is it was communalisation of the people by the muslim league and sustained imprealist policy to keep the subcontinent in their control that led the nation towards the partition.
the hindu revivalist groups of the time and rss were then igniting sectarian politics against the muslims and helping the british in their 'divide and rule' policy.
the congress under gandhi, nehru, azad and patel were spearheading the movement to build india into a nation by involving diverse classes, communities, groups and regions on the one hand, and securing independence from the british rulers for this emerging nation.
modi's poltical forefathers are responsible for communalisation of the polity before independence that aggravated hindu-muslim divide, modi is doing the same now.
he is seeking fatherhood in other homes to justify his nationalism,
azad understood the lessons of partition better. he was against partition, but he knew, building a modern nation is the foremost necessity and education is the greatest tool for this purpose. thus his relevance and significance, long live azad!
